LESSONS

Experience: Zach is a student at Oberlin College and Conservatory. He has been teaching one-on-one, instrument-specific lessons for over six years, primarily on guitar, trumpet, and piano. He has also taught individuals and full classrooms music theory, ear training, composition, arranging, and contemporary American music history. In the summer of 2013, he founded and led the Yafo Harmony initiative, teaching music to underprivileged Israeli and Palestinian youth as a vehicle for social change.

Methodology: The central goal of lessons with Zach is first and foremost a deep love of music, no matter the style or instrument. After all, if someone doesn't really love music, what's the point of practicing? It is essential to enjoy the process of practicing and improving so the student's appreciation for the music can be put into concrete action. It's only possible to teach so much in a given lesson, and it's better to give a student the tools to succeed consistently on their own.

Skype lessons offered for trumpet, composition, and arranging. Weekly in-person lessons available in Oberlin, OH and the greater Cleveland area.
